Mario J. Sankis
Mario is a warrior, not in just a metaphorical way, but an actual warrior. At the age of 8 years old Mario knew he always wanted to be a cop, at 18 he turned to the military, Marines specifically to capture his dream. Starting his career as Marine Military Police, Mario has always understood what it means to protect and serve. While serving Mario was selected to serve as guard for HMX-1 Presidential Helicopter squadron and was tasked with providing security for Presidential assets within the United States and abroad. After serving 4 years as a Marine, Mario became a police officer in the capital of our nation, Washington D.C. till 2006 and then became an officer of the Village of Round Lake Beach in Lake County Illinois. Mario was tasked with patrol duties, sex offender registration/compliance, evidence technician, amongst many other duties. Life was as good as it gets in Mario’s eyes.
Unfortunately, after 15 years on the police force Mario was forced to step down. A bout of testicular cancer along with the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis hit Mario like a wave and he was not sure what his next move was. Mario being an officer and military man, knew he was put on earth to help others, that is why he turned to practicing law. Becoming an intern for Lake County State’s Attorney office, Mario began his efforts to become an attorney. He conducted investigations on white collar crime, public corruption, and child pornography, he also assisted attorneys in the courtroom with trials, hearings, charging crimes, and filing petitions. After his stint as an intern, Mario became an Assistant State Attorney in Lake County.
Mario began his education at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois where he received his degree in Criminal Justice. Eastern Illinois University was his next destination, and Mario received his Bachelor of Arts in General Studies. Lastly Mario attended Northern Illinois University College of Law and graduated Juris Doctor in 2018. Mario was officially sworn in May 9, 2019.
